Rotary focuses on projects that promote environmental sustainability, conservation, and awareness. This includes initiatives like reforestation, waste management, renewable energy projects, and environmental education.
The Rotary year 2017-2018, under the stewardship of then President Eric Semakula, was the Mission Green Year where the Club planned to plant ten thousand trees at personal and community levels.
At the Community level, we planted 5500 trees at St Joseph’s S.S. Nangalama, 5000 trees at Good Samaritan Sisters’ farm at Ttakajjunge, and 500 seedlings at Nkooki Mosque land.
At an individual level, we encouraged each Rotarian to plant trees, and through the then National Chairman NAADs Rotarian Bob Kibirango, he secured for us over 5000 fruit trees, which we distributed to willing residents and Rotary Clubs. PAG Henry Luzinda planted 500 seedlings, PP Bulwadda planted 1000 seedlings in Kasawo. PDG Rosetti Nabbumba planted 1000 seedlings.
The Rotaractors of Mukono Community also helped us to plant over 40.000 seedlings of different species in Malanga in Ssese Islands. Our current President, Gerald Ssessaazi Aquino, attended as one of the Rotaractors of that Club, where he was a Past President.
PP Semakula also planted over 60.000 trees in Hoima, out of which he donated 2000 trees for a Rotary cause. They are growing big and will be ready for harvest in 2026.
In 2024, as part of the “Plant your balance” agenda, RC Mukono is planting trees in Namilyango on over 10 acres of land offered by the Namilyango Catholic church. This is led by our Environment Director, Rotarian Michael Wamuntu. Please check out our gallery for more images
